The summer of 69!

Mr. Hippie

After the great surf-trip our friend Pavel had to go home because his school and job were waiting. Markus, Jule and I went on to Byron Bay where nearly everybody of our little surf-team was staiing for at least two nights. I tell you what, Byron Bay is soooo cool! Probably one of the best places I ever have been at. This little town full of idealisitc Hippies and without any Mc Donald`s (nowbody is allowed to know that there are 2 subways) is special in nearly every way! Lot`s of old VW Vans made me dreaming to have my one one and all the happy Hippies on the streets just make you having a great time! Just to tell you about a few strange people I saw a rock band on the street in the middle of the night, a fire show performing Hippie on the beach at night, a drunken man with a guitar on a playground, nude Hippies running out of the ocean and dancing at the beach to music which just exists in their minds and wondering about the lights of cars, a Hippie practicing flip flops on the main street at night and nice drumming friends at the beach! The night is Byron`s day!

There are less places you can find that get a positive feedback of everybody you ask. Byron is one!

When we decided to stay here one more day we also booked a day tour to Australia´s most craziest town Nimbim! Even the name is crazy and that has a reason. Nimbim is the HIPPIEtown ever! You never can find a place more hippielike than Nimbim! Every single person, every shop, every thing you see, every coffee is a impression of the hippie lifestyle. All you can read is something about ending the prohibition, legalizing weed, or just relax and enjoy life.

Taking illegal drugs is as illegal as everywhere else and so Nimbim is a little bit like a goal without fences. Our bus driver explained us how to deal with the magic mushroom cookies and sweeties you can bye everywhere and to stop dealing as soon as somebody is crying “taxi”. Jim, our bus driver was really a hippie. He told us how they burned down the Byron Bay police station and how they saved a rain forest back at the 70s.

After Nimbim we also met another Hippie which came to Australia 1970, bought a big piece of land and started to grow his one rain forest. Now he is living in and from his one forest. This place is weird. I was totally impressed by the idea that the whole big forest is just 30 years old and this guy was telling about drugs as it would be the onliest thing in his life. Okay, it probably is the onliest thing in his life. For sure this was a day full of different impressions and a great experience.

PS: At one shop in Nimbim I saw a little drum which is now mine! I missed it so much *drumming*

Find your Mojo!

19 Februar, 2009

Here we go! 28th of January was the day I left Sydney the second time. Early the morning Pavel, Markus, Jule and I caught the Mojo-Surftrip-bus to come to Crescenthead our very first Surfspot! On the way Jule said that how she knows me I will catch the first wave at once while everybody else is sucking water, trying to surf.

<I don´t know if you can remember the moment at the last day of 2008 when we were waiting for the big Sydney Harbour New Years Eve Firework the whole day and Jule said that as she knows herself she will fall asleep 5 minutes to twelve. If you know the story, you may know that Jule hast been kicked out of the non alcoholic viewing area and at the end alcohol and the sun made her falling asleep 15 to twelve. This day I didn`t know that Jule seems to be able to project what will happen in future!>

At Crescent Head we put our bags in our 12 man dorms and everybody was fascinated by the nature all around the surfcamp. Except of the huts to sleep in, the toilets and showers and a hut for meals there was just nature and a campfire-place. All this was located 5 minutes walk to the beach and so it really is a surfers paradise. Than we all had our first theoretical surf-lesson before we graped our wetsuits and surfboards. At the beach we had a short try practice and finally we walked out at the ocean!

Belief me or not! Walking out against waves I turned my board, jumped on it, started paddleing and somehow I managed to stand on my board -^°^°^°—>^°^°^— Surfing along the way back to the beach again! I don`t know how to describe my feelings at this moment! It was awesome, unbelievable, unexpected, fantastic, windy, cool, relaxed, SURFING like!

Now I totally was motivated and caught a lot of other waves as well.

At the evening we got fantastic BBQ and I talked to Benny who was working for the Camp for free accommodation, meals and surfing. It was hard to fall asleep after that a great day!

The next day we had a great surfing lesson at the morning on another part of the lonely beach. The afternoon lesson was horrible! We have had a short lesson to learn bodyboarding in case you lost your board and have to catch it. This was good but after that we were surfing at a beach which was full of bluebottlefishs and if they stink you it is a fu**ing pain!! They got me 4 times and you have to keep in mind that I was wearing a wetsuite so that just my feet were unprotected. And even if you caught a wave it was no fun because your board was stucking at the shallow beach at once.

The evening we spend partying around the campfire and went to bed early to get up early the next morning before the sun! We went down to the beach for a wonderful morning sunrise surfing which was the best we had `till now! Surfing with the best waves and while the sunrise is in your back is one of the most impressive things I ever have done!

Than we jumped on the bus again to come to the second camp “Spot X” to keep on Surfing.

Reaching the camp was pretty unorganized and we all wanted to go back to Crescenthead because the Spot X camp was a big touristic surfcamp on a caravan park.

But after the first surfing lesson our opinion has changed and we were happy to have much better surf instructors who told us basic things like how to come out against the waves! This know how and the even better beach for surfing noobs made us all having much more fun while surfing and catching more waves.

So we had 5 fantastic days in a nice, small group of 14 surf noobs and this time was for sure a highlight during my time in Australia!

All I can say now is Thank You to all who helped me to pay this great trip and to all of you: !Take a board and walk out at the ocean to find your mojo and fell the wind in your hair!!

Come! Let`s go riding waves!

Back in Sydney

Darling Harbour @ night

As you know I have been back in Sydney since the last days of the old year to see the world famous new years eve firework at Sydney Harbour which was awesome!

The first time I was living in a flat Jule and a few other backpackers from the old hostel in Sydney have rented. All right! But unfortunately they kicked my out of the flat at the night before Jule, Mugel and I started our trip at the blue mountains. The reason for that is really crazy. They told me that Jule is so unhappy since I arrived and even when Jule told them that this is nothing about me they thought to know it better than Jule herself.

Anyway, Markus offered me the opportunity to stay with him at his flour. That is exactly what I did the next three weeks and it was cool. At the same time there was a new flatmate Pavel moving in. Together we enjoyed our time and one evening we decided to do a surf trip together.

On 26th of January 2009 “chinese new year” and “Australia day” were at the same day which means a big celebration all over the city! When the morning was not that good because I missed a few tings and others I wanted to see have not been performed and finally a big rain started, the evening was much better. At Darling Harbour we have been in front of the firework of Australia day and again it was a breathtaking firework. To my mind it was even better than the New Years Eve one. Anyway, at the evening it was not only watching the Aussis celebrating their Australia day but being a part of all the people living in Australia and you really could feel that you are welcome whoever you are and where ever you are from. You never would be able to imagine such a party in Germany. Finally Australia Day was a great day!

After 3 weeks of work at “Victorias Basement”, a shop with everything from tablecloth to dish and cutlery sets and any other things nobody needs, the time was on for our 5 day Surftrip from Sydney up the east coast to Byron Bay! Happy and ready to go!

The Blue Mountains

Sunriise at the three sisters

This mountain-area close to Sydney was a thing I missed at my first time in Sydney and so Markus, Jule and I went there for 2 days in the first week of the new year.

Eyecatching sceneries and wonderful nature made us having a great time. The first day we went out of the train at “Wenthwood Falls” to have a first nice hick along this great waterfalls.

Very funny was the way Jule was carrying our watermelon on her shoulder. One highlight was a small waterfall I walked by and left the trail and suddenly I was in an area which really looked like behind a waterfall and nobody was there! Some more small waterfalls and the nice shallow river were not private for a long time after I have been their.

I also took showers in a few waterfalls we passed and enjoyed the great days!

On our way we saw a stone looking like a great table and there we celebrated eating our watermelon. Great fun!

Back at the train station we caught the train to Katoomba the biggest city in the mountains to come to our Hostel! After a small dinner we walked to the famous “Echo Point” from where you can have a great look at the rock formation “the 3 sisters” and we watched the sunset their.

Early the next morning we got up before the sun to come to “Echo Point” before the sunrise again to watch the 3 sisters during the sunrise.

After checking out of our hostel we had a nice breakfast in a local restaurant and then we caught the old London explorer bus to stop at different points for a few hiking trips. At the end of the day we took our train back to Sydney were I just graped my luggage out of the flat I have been kicked out the night before we started the trip and went to Mugel were I was living on the flour then for 3 weeks. Thanks for this help Mugel.
